Wei-Jiat joined the New Zealand Customs Service ("NZCS") in November 2015 and currently is the Group Manager – Trade, Revenue & Compliance. Wei-Jiat has also held various positions in NZCS, including management of strategic programmes and running NZCS’ data science and intelligence divisions.
Prior to joining NZCS, Wei-Jiat worked as a senior manager in the New Zealand KPMG Forensic team undertaking a variety of engagements including investigations, e-discovery, fraud risk management and anti-money laundering regulatory compliance.
Prior to working at KPMG, Wei-Jiat worked for six years in the New Zealand Intelligence community holding investigatory and operational roles that involved managing and co-ordinating investigations and intelligence collection, liaison with government departments and the planning/co-ordinating of operational activity. Wei-Jiat has also practiced corporate law at Russell McVeagh for three years providing legal advice on compliance, commercial transactions/contracts and corporate governance.
